Patterns are organized by standard Life Game classification: Still Lifes (never change), Oscillators (periodic patterns), Dies Completely/Becomes Oscillator/Becomes Still Life (short-term evolution outcomes), Spaceships (moving patterns), Methuselahs (long evolution from small patterns), Guns (infinite glider/spaceship generators), Puffers (moving debris makers), Rakes (moving glider generators), Infinite Growth (unbounded expansion), Reflectors (glider manipulation), Garden of Eden (predecessorless), and Complex Patterns (specialized behaviors). If the game is running, it will stop automatically. Selecting the same pattern again will reset it to initial state.
